And Then There Were Two?

A lot happened on this week’s Idol. Wednesday night’s show gave way to a new Idol policy—cutting it down to two judges per contestant.
I guess producers finally realized that it may have been a mistake to have four permanent judges because it takes so long to get through each contestant. To avoid running long like last week, producers decided to cut down the judging—allowing us to only hear from either Paula and Simon or Randy and Kara.
At least we got one good judge in each group. I actually found myself missing Simon’s comments though. I have a feeling that we will be back to three judges next season. I guess Paula will be seeing Klohe Kardashian in the unemployment line.
This week seemed to either make or break contestants. Lil has gone from favorite to win to a permanent fixture in the bottom three. Anoop has gone from being horrible to mediocre—well at least there is some improvement. And Allison has become “the girl’s only hope,” according to Simon.
The theme this week was songs from the movies and the contestants had the opportunity to work with Quentin Tarantino—I guess we must have missed all of chart topping performances. Quentin was three shades of crazy on the show. Maybe it is just me, but he seemed slightly confused through the process.
Songs from the movies was an alright theme, but I have no effing clue what Tarantino’s purpose was. The stupidity in the decision to bring him on as a mentor is surpassed only by Andrew Lloyd Webber week.
The results show gave quite a surprise. One shocker came when Anoop still didn’t get the boot. How this is even possible is what I want to know—it is looking like producers keep these contestants around way past their expiration date only to boost ratings (I.E. Sanjaya).
The surprise is when Matt was voted off, only to be saved from elimination by the judges. I’m glad they used the judge’s save. I still think he has a few things to show us. Do I think he can win—no. Do I like his singing and think he will have a career—yes.
This week’s Idol was not one to miss. It started off as a train wreck and finished by leaving me questioning the whole voting process. I will miss Idol when it goes away for the year though. I guess I will have to resort to covering actual news—yeah right, who am I kidding?
